Former AECOM VP, Michael J. Sweeney, P.E., to Lead TranSystems’ Passenger Rail and Transit Group

TranSystems recently announced that Michael J. Sweeney, P.E., has joined the company’s New York City office as National Transit Market Sector Leader/Vice President in support of the firm’s passenger rail and transit group. Mr. Sweeney has extensive experience working on the largest and most complex rail/transportation projects in the United States.

“Mike brings to TranSystems a talent which further advances our expertise in the crucial mass transit arena,” said Paul Malir, President of TranSystems. “This is an exciting time to bring first class capabilities to the high-speed rail, intercity rail, trolley/urban transit and bus rapid transit fields. Mr. Sweeney’s notable projects include managing the infrastructure rehabilitation of Grand Central Terminal for Metro North Railroad and the restoration of the Times Square Station for the New York City Transit Authority. He was also the Chief Engineer for the MTA Capital Construction’s new terminal station as part of the East Side Access project. Mr. Sweeney has served as the project executive for the Mass Transit Tunnel for the New Jersey Transit, the Croton-Harmon Shop and Yard Rehabilitation and the reconstruction of the Brown Line for the Chicago Transit Authority. Sweeney came to TranSystems from AECOM, where he previously spent his entire career and was, most recently, vice president for all transit activity in the Eastern half of the US and Canada.
