Walton/TranSystems Wins Best of 2009 Award
TranSystems recently won Best Government/Public Project in McGraw Hill South Central Construction’s Best of 2009 Awards Recognizing Excellence for its Design/Build of the C-130 Squadron Operations/Aircraft Maintenance Unit Facility at Little Rock Air Force Base (LRAFB) for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers – Little Rock District. TranSystems was retained by Kansas City-based Walton Construction Company to serve as their design partner.
LRAFB has the distinction of being the only training base of the C-130 aircraft in the Department of Defense, serving all four branches and 28 other countries with instruction in the piloting and navigation of the aircraft. TranSystems designed the new structure to house the following facilities and functions: Squadron Command, four Flight Offices, Flight Planning, Standards and Evaluation, and Scheduling, along with CTK, Mobility, Life Safety Operations and other associated functions. The 40,000 sq ft complex was completed in May 2009.
Mike Henson, Project Manager from Walton Construction commented that “the project teaming that occurred on the C130 Squad Ops AMU project, with TranSystems, was excellent. The design-build process and involvement of the consultants was efficient and the response by TranSystems for field construction issues was quick, comprehensive and accurate. Bill Wills with TranSystems was confident in Walton’s ability to devise constructible solutions, and was always quick to inquire what our thoughts were for the best solution in lieu of blindly instructing us to follow a certain method. I look forward to working with TranSystems on my next project; they have been the best design-build partner I have teamed with on all the government projects I have worked.”
Mr. Hansen adds that “the U.S. Air Force was great to work with as well. The entire design-build process, through the design review meetings was effective, and all comments and concerns were captured through the government’s Dr. Checks system, leading to a quality design issued for construction, with all stakeholders satisfied with the results.”
John Stock, Senior Principal and Federal Market Sector Leader for TranSystems, expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the Walton/TranSystems Team, “Congratulations to Walton Construction, our Build partner, for a job well done. Partnering with Walton led to the success of delivering an innovative, award-winning Design-Build project to the USACE Little Rock District. TranSystems strives to build strong strategic partnerships with successful companies like Walton who share our passion for providing high-quality service and client satisfaction. Also, I extend my appreciation to Bill Wills, RA, TranSystems’ Project Manager based out of our Norfolk, Virginia office, for his contributing efforts and hard work that led to a successful, inventive design solution. On design-build projects, the PM role is critical and Bill utilized his extensive pioneering knowledge of the proposal effort and the challenges of the accelerated, integrated design process to help in delivering an award-winning project to the USACE Little Rock District.”
McGraw Hill South Central Construction’s annual awards competition recognizes construction and design excellence from Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee. The jury awards projects based on entry criteria including safety, innovation, contribution to the community or industry, construction quality and craftsmanship, and function and aesthetic quality of design. The winners of South Central Construction’s Best of 2009 are featured in the December 2009 issue and will be entered into the National Best of 2009 competition and judged against winners from other regions.
