Former NAVFAC Engineer John Collins Joins TranSystems’ Federal Group

TranSystems recently announced that John Collins, PE, has joined the company as senior project manager for its Charleston, SC, office and in support of the firm’s federal sector, bringing 30 years of experience as a senior project manager, predominately with NAVFAC (Naval Facilities Engineering Command) Southeast. He also was heavily involved with AFCEE (Air Force Center of Engineering and the Environment) and their Air Force installations.

“John has the distinction of executing the first design/build military construction project for the U.S. Navy (at least a decade ago),” said John Stock, senior vice president/market sector leader for TranSystems’ federal group. “His resume of projects managed stretches across considerable DoD geography and a broad range of facility types. John’s leadership, intense enthusiasm and ability to bring stakeholders together and manage the process will be a wonderful addition to our team.”

Collins began his 30-year career with the Department of Defense as a structural engineer/naval architect at Charleston Naval Shipyard, where he designed structural foundations on surface combatant ships. After earning his Professional Engineer registration, he transferred to Southern Division, NAVFAC and became the project manager for the Charleston Naval Base, where he managed a myriad of multi-disciplined projects. In 1995, John was promoted to supervisor of the Air Force Project Management Branch. There, he and his team were responsible for all Military Construction Projects on Charleston AFB, Shaw AFB, Barksdale AFB, LA, Keesler AFB, MS and Ascension Island Airfield, South Atlantic. Base Re-alignment and Closure of Southern Division NAVFAC in 2007 prompted him to move to SPAWAR where he finished his DoD career as the Project Engineer for Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, CA.

Collins received a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Clemson University and is a member of the Society of Military Engineers.
